Doyun Lee

Sustainable Engineering Researcher

Doyun Lee is a high school senior from San Diego with interests spanning sustainable engineering, data analysis, education, gaming, and digital art. He currently interns at Cincy Carbon, where he explores electrochemical carbon dioxide conversion and sustainable aviation fuel production, with a focus on carbon utilization, catalysis, and process optimization. Outside of his research, Doyun has pursued several independent technical projects. He conducted a study comparing the cost, travel time, and carbon emissions of driving and public transportation across commuter routes in San Diego, using regional transit, energy, and emissions data to evaluate real-world transportation tradeoffs. He also independently designed and programmed *Genesis Bloom*, an educational Roblox game created to help students practice AP Calculus concepts through interactive gameplay. Doyun is also an experienced Roblox visual effects artist specializing in anime-inspired combat effects, and a competitive esports player and coach who has ranked among the top 200 Brawl Stars players globally. His team qualified for the North American Monthly Finals after placing among the region’s top eight teams. Beyond technology and competition, Doyun is passionate about teaching and mentorship. He has served as a Taekwondo instructor, Korean school teaching assistant, library volunteer, and chess mentor. At Rancho Bernardo High School, he is involved in music, chess, engineering, and several student organizations, including serving as president of the Mechanical Keyboard Club and vice president of the Taekwondo Club. Across his work, Doyun enjoys combining technical problem-solving, creativity, competition, and community involvement to explore how engineering and technology can make a practical impact.
